The Origin of the BCRPM Logo
From the east pediment came one of the finest Parthenon sculptures, Selene's Horse. "This
is an extraordinarily lively rendition," Cornelia Hadziaslani* tells us, "Worth noting is the
freedom of composition, how the head of the lovely creature rises above the cymatia (moulding)
of the horizontal geison and protrudes at an angle. This is one of the best known works
exhibited at the British Museum."
The Horse of Selene, exhibited to date in the British Museum. A copy
has now been placed in the pediment of the temple in Athens.
James Cubitt designed the logo of the BCRPM in the early 1980s, using this beautiful
carving as his inspiration. It has proven to be a fitting and popular choice, and has
remained our logo ever since.
